STEM, Gender Equity and Diversity Leaders Attend 2018 AWIS Summit

Two hundred gender equity, workforce, and STEM leaders across the country attended the 4th Annual AWIS Summit Innovation and Inclusion in San Francisco, California. Featured speakers provided solutions and best practices to drive meaningful systemic change to expand funding opportunities for STEM entrepreneurs across all disciplines and address the ongoing workforce diversity, gender and inclusion gaps.

AWIS Awards 2018 STEM and Gender Equity Champions

AWIS announced its inaugural awards to industry champions who are making significant contributions to increasing workplace diversity, promoting women in leadership positions and advocating for more inclusive practices in STEM. The 2018 awardees include Sue Desmond-Hellmann, CEO, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation,who received the Pinnacle Award. The Leadership Award was given to Melinda Richter, Global Head of Johnson & Johnson Innovation, JLABS; Rachel Haurwitz, Co-founder of Caribou Biosciences, received the Next Generation Award; and Salesforce is the recipient of the Game Changer Award.

For nearly 50 years, AWIS has been at the forefront of critical conversations and meaningful action at the intersection of science and society. This event brought together approximately 200 decision-makers in STEM who are in position to direct future change with positive solutions. Sara Kenkare-Mitra presented the AWIS Pinnacle Award to Sue Desmond-Hellmann at the AWIS event in SF.
